Practical Asset Register: Minimum Fields

A starting field set for factories building a maintainable asset register before preventive-maintenance or CMMS implementation.

Start with fields that support real maintenance decisions:

  • unique asset code;
  • asset name and description;
  • parent system or equipment;
  • physical location;
  • department or owner;
  • manufacturer, model, and serial number where available;
  • criticality;
  • key technical ratings;
  • status: active, standby, out of service, or retired;
  • photograph and nameplate evidence;
  • manuals and drawings;
  • safety or isolation references within the approved process;
  • compatible critical spares;
  • preventive-maintenance strategy;
  • data owner and last verification date.

Add detail only when it supports work planning, inspection, spares, safety, analysis, or a management decision.
